Class 10/23 ENGL 200

Continuing on with our genre studies conversation.  I want everyone to start thinking about your "place" as a male or female.  We talked about how some of us are wives, sons, daughters, fathers etc.  We only scratched the surface of what it means to be an individual based on our gender.  I want you to start examining things around you; the way things work.  How are men and women viewed in our society, media, work, sports, entertainment etc... ???  Beginning thinking about things like "double standards", "patriarch" , "sexuality" in these mediums.  Familiarize yourself with these terms so that you have a clear understanding about your next writing topic.

Key Words:  Gender Studies, Patriarchy vs. Matriarchy, Double Standards

Assignment:

Read: Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros (Found In Readings Link)
Provide 1 FULL PAGE response
Start thinking about a subject you would like to explore for your next writing assignment.

FYI:  For those of you interested in writing about economics, let me know about a specific subject that you're interested in.  Unfortunately their too many political arenas that we can discuss in order for me to focus on one particular thing, and for that I apologize in advanced.

Assignment 10/7 ENG 200

We have had a preliminary discussion about our subject. (DPS Checkpoints)  We understand the main argument that DPS is making.   "Make the roads safer by checking for driver's licences and insurance."
Your research and questions should stem from our discussion in class.  What about the other questions that we have?  What about undocumented people?  What about this issue of sharing our information?  What about the socioeconomic consequences that have arisen because of this issue?  Your research should try to answer some of these questions.

I also wanted you to do some research on systems of government.  I wanted you to look up authoritarianism for example.  How are these types of legal searches correlated to an autocratic society.  You can also research other systems of government and attempt to tie it to our discussion.

"How much money is the state making with all these warrants, vehicle citations etc... ?"  --> Think about it in the capitalist mode of government for example.

Assignment:
Presentation:  I'd like to see a powerpoint / Present the information that you talked about in your drafts individually

Research:  The actual law ( Are we pretty much screwed? Are there holes in the law?)

Cite: 2 Sources.

Good luck!!
